Speak Up London welcomes young learners in closed groups throughout the year. We tailor the courses to the needs of each group and offer project-based activities to keep our learners focused and motivated.
The exciting social activities program will also give students the opportunity to explore what London has to offer. Request a personalized leisure program for your group.
We accept 16 and 17-year-olds on our adult courses (parental consent forms are required and strict safeguarding rules apply).
Closed groups of under 16s (minimum age: 8 years old and maximum age: 15 years old) or under 18s (16/17-year-olds) are also accepted when accompanied by a group leader.
Individual lessons for under 18s can also be arranged. Please see our
Safeguarding Policy for more information on what rules apply in the above situations.
WHAT WILL YOU
WHAT ABOUT
Accommodation
Having a place to call home when you are away from home.
We have residential accommodation for groups and families in Zone 1 and Zone 2.
Welfare
We provide a caring and supportive learning environment for all our students and their safety and well-being is an integral part of everything we do.
Student care includes:
Child supervision ratio
Speak Up London may occasionally accept closed groups of young adults/under 18s. Group leaders must accompany them at all times outside of the classroom. This includes toilet breaks and leaving and arriving at the school.
Supervision ratios for these groups must be one group leader to every 8 students. Measures such as staggering break times, allocating such groups to floors where no adult classes are held and thorough student and group leader inductions will take place to ensure student safety.
Young Adult supervision ratio
Young Adult supervision ratio would ideally be 1 staff member for every 15 students but where possible 1 staff member to every 10 students would be best practice.
Specialist Qualifications
As no leisure activities are held for under 18s either on- or -off-site, no formal qualifications/training is needed. All staff members complete the Safeguarding Level 1 training course and hold an enhanced DBS check.
